The Bat's Shadow
I watch over the innocents and the oppressed.
I am the guardian of the unprotected and the weak.
I am the judgment to the oppressors' vitriol,
In the cold, sullied heart of a city so bleak.
The lone crusader,
I comb the length and breadth of Gotham,
Breathing in the deadened pain of yesteryears so washed away.
Betrayal looms over the distant future,
Yet my steel code rages on,
Warding off evil's sway.
No cheers or adulation for me.
I have never been so sure.
No more want of happiness,
As I scout for my city's cure.
A heartless peril clouds the ones I care about.
I believe I can take this phase.
Conscience bleeds black the strongest in clout,
But my love is lost in this joyous rage.
I am the blind justice,
Unrelenting and unreal,
Testing the enemies' prowling might.
I am the surety of wrath,
Sounding the doom's knell,
As I glide the city's dreary dark night.
